Coaching and the process of discovery
What I like about coaching is the process of discovery. By holding a safe and confidential space we allow our inner self to open a path otherwise closed and bring to the surface emotions that otherwise we try to hide. I feel truly privileged to be in the position of allowing people to rediscover themselves, connect past dots to the present, make a significant transformation of who they are, and identify the gap between where they are and where they would like to be. In the end, it is not the result that makes the real difference but who we become in the process of unveiling our true us.
What really fascinates me about the human mind is the dual ability to change our own reality for the sake of maintaining ourselves in a situation of “comfort” or familiarity irrespective of whether we are not happy. We are incredibly skilled in justifying our behavior, whether right or wrong, agree or disagree, whether convenient or inconvenient.
As I walk through this fascinating journey called coaching, I came across so many people dealing with a great variety of issues: whether it is stress, low self-esteem, weight management, or feeling stuck into a job or a reality that does not longer serve them, many discussions boil down to “what is that you are allowing into your life?”.
The answers I receive vary a lot depending on the person and situation. For instance, some may say, “Well I am not allowing anything, it just happened”, or “It is the person’s fault, not mine”, while others stay still, pause, and ponder in realization. In some instances, some people become protective and defensive saying “Are you implying that all this is my fault?”. In the end, there is no right or wrong because our answer is the reflection of how ready or not we are to face what our role is in whatever situation we are struggling with. If you are ready to make a significant change in your life, we will start reflecting on it. If you are not ready to make a significant change, we will opt for the easiest route; be defensive and resist the change. Either way, as a coach I am there to facilitate your self-discovery and empower you to find the answer within yourself.
If there is someone that can truly make a difference in your life, it is you.
